Love from a distance

Once upon a time

a girl could write and rhyme…

My friend Rue posted something I wrote a while back on her medium account and I thought I would share here.

Love from a distance
Are these stones or Little Rock’s

Hills or mountains,

Plains or valleys adding to the distance.

Are you far away,

A thousand miles or ten away.

Far away from where my heart can reach.

Far away from where my voice can be heard.

Far away from where my touch can be felt.

Am I watching the time?

Calculating our time difference

Deliberating on whether or not to reach you.

Wondering if you are up or not.

Are you thinking of me?

Because am here, on this road

Where your hands left mine

Come get me, am waiting…

Poetry is language at its most distilled and most powerful
